Dr. Mehmet Oz revealed the metabolism-boosting powers of yacon syrup for weight loss on the May 26 episode of the Dr. Oz Show. (*This episode originally aired Nov. 4, 2013.)

Dr. Oz said yacon syrup is a metabolism game changer that helps you enjoy weight loss without exercising or changing your diet. The best part is, yacon syrup is a natural food that is not a pill or supplement.

Yacon syrup is a sweetening agent extracted from the South American yacón plant (smallanthus sonchifolius). Yacon is a diet staple in South America that’s also used as a natural sweetener. It’s a thick, molasses-like substance that tastes like caramel but is half as sweet as maple syrup

73% of Women Lost Weight Without Exercise

To test its weight loss effectiveness, Dr. Oz had 60 women in his audience test the product by eating one teaspoon of yacon syrup before breakfast, lunch, and dinner for four weeks. He also asked them not to change their diet or exercise routine while testing the yacon syrup.

The results of Dr. Oz’s 28-Day yacon weight loss experiment were impressive: A whopping 73% of the women lost an average of 3 pounds each, and 2 inches off their waists. And 68% of the women said they would recommend yacon syrup to their friends and family.

The ladies said yacon was an effective appetite suppressant that kept them feeling full. Dr. Oz said yacon syrup has about 7 calories per teaspoon, is high in fiber, and boosts metabolism.

Previous clinical studies confirmed that yacon syrup is an effective weight-loss tool. According to a 2009 study published in the medical journal Clinical Nutrition, 55 women lost an average of 33 pounds in 120 days using yacon syrup.

Obesity expert Dr. Neal Barnard endorses yacon syrup for weight loss. Like Dr. Oz, Dr. Barnard likes that yacon syrup is not a diet pill or supplement, and can be used as a natural sugar substitute.

“Yacon syrup may well help you lose weight, and it appears to be safe and easy to use,” said Dr. Barnard, author of 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart. “It’s worth a try.”

Fat-Burning Pill FBCx Melts 500 Calories a Day

On a previous episode, Dr. Oz said a revolutionary fat-burning weight-loss supplement called FBCx literally flushes fat from your system. FBCx is a soluble fiber that binds to the fat you eat and can eliminate 500 calories a day.

Dr. Oz said FBCx is especially helpful for those times when you overindulge. “Every time you cheat on your diet, I want you to grab one of these itty-bitty pills,” he said. “This tiny tablet can push a lot of fat out of your body.”

To get rid of belly fat, Dr. Oz recommended the following:

Forskolin supplement. Forskolin is an herb that has been shown to promote the breakdown of stored fats. Dr. Oz said 125 mg of Forskolin supplement in the morning can help release fatty acids from adipose tissue.
Green tea. Green tea contains EGCG, an antioxidant that burns fat and protects against the free-radical damage that fuels aging and cancer. Dr. Oz said drinking two cups of green tea a day can help melt belly fat. Green tea also prevents fat storage and reduces your risks for heart disease and cancer, he said.
CLA supplement. Studies show that conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) burn belly fat and increase lean body mass. CLA supplements work by speeding up the process by which your cells release fat. The catechins from green tea combined with the fat-fighting properties of CLA deliver a powerful one-two punch when it comes eliminating belly fat, said Dr. Oz.
