Lack of energy can impact every aspect of your life. Fatigue can cause you to seek out quick sources of energy, such as candy and cookies. That turns into a fattening cycle, where you experience a boost in energy, followed by a sag that causes you to crave more sugar and carbohydrates.

The first solution: A prebiotic shake sipped in the morning that cleanses your body and boosts your good bacteria. Blend 10 ounces of almond milk, one medium banana, one-half cup of blueberries, two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and one scoop of protein powder.

Studies show that “good” bacteria helps with weight loss and also streamlines the digestive process. In addition, some researchers say that apple cider vinegar helps with weight loss.

And new research supports that morning shake tip from Dr. Oz. Researchers have found that skipping meals causes weight gain, while eating breakfast boosts weight loss, reported TribLive News on Friday.

In one study, two groups of dieters ate the same number of calories and food choices. But those who ate their main meal before 3 p.m. lost more weight.

In addition, researchers discovered that those who suffer from insomnia and wake during the night frequently tend to gain weight more easily. If your insomnia is caused by stress, one of Dr. Oz’s anti-aging remedies may help: Citrus.

Citrus fruits provide you with flavonoids to ease anxiety and boost your brain. Enjoy half a grapefruit for breakfast, for example, and squeeze lemon juice over your salad.

Boost your energy with fiber-rich flaxseeds. And you might love coffee, but a better choice at least some of the time is dandelion coffee for detoxifying your liver, according to Dr. Oz.

However, a new study indicates that when it comes to weight loss, coffee is the winner. Daily coffee consumption also reduces your risk of diabetes in another study. And the Mayo Clinic reports that coffee can suppress your appetite.

In addition, Dr. Oz recommended coconut oil. It’s a way to turn back the clock on aging skin when used as a moisturizer and it also improves fat-burning when as a source of healthy fats.

Dr. Oz says that coconut oil can boost your metabolism and help you shed pounds faster. With antioxidants and healthy fats, coconut oil is a kitchen essential not just for dieters but for the entire family.

So should you partake of a steaming hot new trend: Bulletproof Coffee? That involves mixing coffee with both butter and coconut oil.

Although some say the mixture boosts weight loss by cutting their appetite and surviving as a complete meal, not everyone is convinced. “What worries me about a fad is how quickly on fire it can get on the internet with no science to substantiate these claims,” said Dr. Liz Applegate, Director of Sports Nutrition at UC Davis, in a Saturday interview with CBS News.

A more proven route to slimming down? Dr. Oz is a believer in combining diet with fitness. In addition to burning calories during the workout itself, studies have shown that it helps your body keep burning calories more effectively after you exercise.

On the same episode, Dr. Oz invited celebrity trainer Shaun T to show how to blast fat and whittle your waistline fast. Shaun T says that by using movements that involve your entire body and require you to move quickly, you can boost your weight loss with just five minutes of exercise.

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) requires you to boost the pace and intensity of your workouts. Studies have shown that they optimize your metabolism, boost fat-burning and allow you to achieve maximum results in minimal time.
